New (we hesitate to call him "rookie") Union goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon writes to tell us of his musical preferences:
@PhillieFootie i love salsa and merengue but whatever u guys create i will love it!
(He actually wrote this; how diplomatic!) and has some musical suggestions of his own:
@PhillieFootie i like Sergio Vargas (merengue), Gran Combo de P[uer]to Rico (salsa), Tony Dize (reggeaton), Son de Cali (salsa), Grupo Niche (salsa)
Lots of great music, Faryd! And while we're working on our Latin dance moves, reader Isabel suggests:
Thanks, Isabel and Faryd! Enjoy, kiddies!

I like the music, but how does this translate to a River End chant? Are you suggesting the "Weo" call and response?
ReplyDeleteWe like the music, also, yet we realize that not everything becomes a River End chant. "Weo" is one suggestion; we'd welcome others.
ReplyDeleteYeah, sorry, my bad. I just got excited to see merengue/Faryd/Union all in one tweet and threw out an old song I love. Doesn't really work for a chant. But loving the sabor latino!

ReplyDeleteFor a chant, what are the chances of it working to do the three syllables across the river end - and eventually the stadium. Maybe "Mon" from 138-140 side, "dra" 134-136 and "GON" from the whole RE. 137 could do as they please - split themselves down the middle or whatever. With everybody on "GON" it would assure the proper syllabic emphaysis. Bass Drum for tempo.
ReplyDeleteOr something like this. Corey and 137 "MON", rest of river end responds "dra-GON".
If it (either - or something similar) starts slow and builds in tempo that lets it start to sink in through out the stadium. Later in the season it could be the whole RE "MON" and the rest of the stadium "dra-GON".
OK so this doesn't have to do with music, but it's just so exciting to feel such pride and excitement (not dread) about the man between the posts.
